Project IGI : “I’m Going In”

This is one of the best games I have ever played. Let me put in some article from Wikipedia about the game here.

Project I.G.I.: I’m Going In (released in Europe as simply Project I.G.I.) is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Innerloop Studios and released on December 15, 2000 by Eidos Interactive. It is one of the first computer games to feature realistic weaponry and tactical combat situations. Upon release the game garnered mixed reviews due to a number of shortcomings, such as poorly programmed A.I., lack of a mid-game save option, and the lack of multiplayer features. However it was praised for its superb sound design and graphics, thanks in part to its use of a proprietary game engine that was previously used in Innerloop’s Joint Strike Fighter.

Main Characters

  • David Llewellyn Jones – Jones is an agent for I.G.I. (Institute for Geotactical Intelligence) and former British SAS operator. Players control him as the main character.
  • Anya – Anya is the contact at headquarters who directs Jones via’s radio. She appears in the final mission to defuse the bomb.
  • Jach Priboi – Soviet Arms Dealer
  • Josef Priboi – Jach’s Nephew
  • Ekk – a Russian woman who intends to destroy Europe by nuclear warfare.
  • Captain Harrison – commander of allied troops, which aid Jones in some missions, and an ex-Green Beret.

There are 14 levels in the game. The game mainly starts with a simple plot of securely taking Joseph Priboi out of prison and sending him to the base. But there will be a lot of twists and turns and the game finally ends with the diffusing of a bomb.

The first level starts in a small train-yard where David Jones has to steal a truck and escape as soon as possible. The level is very easy and there won’t be a problem in finishing it.

Mission 1 Guide:

The second level is all about destroying the Surface-to-Air Missile launchers and escape in a chopper. This is also a walk in the park.

Mission 2 Guide:

The third level is a bit difficult. This is something to deal with a Military Air Base and Jones has to find the prison where Joseph Priboi is kept and escape with him. But the story gets a twist when Priboi is not found in the prison. Jones has to escape immediately using the Military Aircraft – A Fighter Jet. The AI in this level is a bit tough and it required me to have certain number of tries to finish it.

Mission 3 Guide:

The fourth mission is about providing firing cover to the team who is about to evacuate Priboi from a suspected place. This is one level which completely depends upon the best gun in the game – the Dragunov. I love this mission. Timing is very important.

Mission 4 Guide:

The fifth mission is about uploading a virus to a computer and escaping with the help of a chopper. Difficulty level is medium. This level is the first in which many enemy soldiers use the Spas-12 and better be careful not to raise an alarm.

Mission 5 Guide:

The sixth mission is all about finding Jach Priboi and catch him in an ambush. This is one of the tough levels and this is the first mission where the player is required to use the Law-80 Anti-Tank missile launcher to destroy the tank which would come in case of an alarm. Difficulty level is high.

Mission 6 Guide:

The seventh mission is where Jones’s helicopter is shot down and he’s left without his map-computer or any gun. Only the knife is left with him. But on killing the first enemy, the Dragunov can be obtained and the mission is Very Difficult for the beginners.

Mission 7 Guide:

The eight mission is about getting the stolen map computer and coming back on track. It also requires the player to destroy one Anti-Aircraft Missile launcher. This is also very difficult for beginners.

Mission 8 Guide:

The ninth mission is where Jones is left near another big train-yard and he has to get onto the train with Priboi. Timing is very important even in this level.

Mission 9 Guide:

The tenth mission is where the train is destroyed due to missiles from some enemy Aircrafts and Jones has to protect himself and also Priboi till they are safely evacuated. This is one of the toughest I have to admit.

Mission 10 Guide:

The eleventh mission is about getting towards the cable-car to climb a mountain to gain access to a fort. This is fairly easy than the other levels. Comparable to Military Airbase, i.e.., the very third mission in the game.

Mission 11 Guide:

The 12th mission is about finding the place where the enemy is suspected to have kept the bomb. This is a tough mission even though the number of enemy soldiers are limited. The AI in this mission is very well built.

Mission 12 Guide:

The 13th mission is where we get to use the map computer for the last time. This has a lot of enemies and all enemy AI is built in such a way that it’s very tough to go through them. I have taken about 10 or more turns to finish this level.

Mission 13 Guide:

Part 1:

Part 2:

The 14th and final mission is where Jones with the help of Anya is able to find the bomb and Anya comes over to diffuse it. This is comparable to 13th level in terms of AI, but is tough as there won’t be a Map-Computer’s help. Anaconda is a small gun that is useless but still, you can find it in this level.

Mission 14 Guide:

Part 1:

Part 2:

My experience with Project IGI has been very good and even though, it is an outdated game for many, I’d still say, “It’s one of the best ever”.
